No woman should ever have to feel scared or threatened every single day of her life. No woman should have to look over her shoulder while walking down the street. No society should turn the other cheek when they see something wrong happening. According to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, no one has the right to hurt you or torture you. Laws like this exist everywhere yet there are women having to face the danger of being attacked at any moment. There are big threats such as rape and other forms of torture that women in certain countries have to live in fear of everyday. Women are targeted all around the world. Two counties in which this problem is very prevalent are India and Pakistan. These two countries are not the only places in which this happens but recently, there have been even more instances of these types of attacks. In India, rape has been a very pressing issue for quite some time, but it wasn’t until recently that action was taken. According to Indian gov ernment statistics, a woman is raped every 22 minutes on average . That means 65 women are raped every day. Acid attacks, a kind of torture where a person gets acid thrown in their face, is a very big issue in Pakistan. In 2013, there were 143 acid attacks registered with the Acid Survivors Foundation. The Acid Survivors Foundation, a Pakistani advocacy group for victims, estimates that 150 attacks occur each year. This is just an estimate because there are many attacks that go unreported.
